Description
Technology has allowed people to move to the city from manual labor in the fields. This prompted a significant increase in the cities due to the fact that the urban poor have migrated to the cities in search of better living conditions and job opportunities. Technology has stimulated growth of modern society, but, on the other hand, it is also used to control the population in ways which, for example, the Roman emperors could only dream of. One of the most important parts of the technology, which absolutely changed lives of millions of people, is the Internet. One of the most obvious effects of the Internet on a society is its awareness that is growing against background of the increasing number of its users, and “by leaps and bounds”. At present, any person being at home in a pleasant environment can find any question, any interesting information ranging from global issues (the meaning of life or global warming) and ending in tracing the closest to the home pharmacies and clothing stores. There are sites on almost any topic in the Internet, and with introduction of new products in any society there are also new sites on this subject. Internet solved many social problems, such as authorities’ communication with the public and public relation agencies, community organizations with the community. The Internet search solved a lot of people’s problems, for example, dating through the Internet or searching for the people, such as classmates or distant relatives. Internet has influenced the development of many digital technologies, communication channels, video and photo materials, as with the Internet people began to exchange digital information and the need to improve its quality increased. Society has become closer to itself; the Internet has erased distances and borders. It has been said that cultures created their identities through technology. For example, the whole world knows Switzerland for their Swiss watches. The whole world respects Japan for their advanced technology, considering them to be progressive society. The whole world knows the U.S. Silicon Valley. Internet and computers identify the U.S. culture as quickly developing. On the other hand, the U.S. takes the leading position in the number of Internet-depending people. This destroys the structure and traditions of a society. A sociologist might argue that many of the problems with technology are not a result of technology, but of political or cultural shortcomings. A lot of youth became Internet-dependent people. They are not able to communicate without Internet and even cannot make calls without so cheap and comfortable program Skype. “So what?”, someone may ask. The problem is deeper. A lot of unpopular institutions, such as Telephone Company, may fall with the development and popularity of the Internet. The decadence of such companies can cause serious problems in economics. The people, who promote such programs as Skype, create technology and economic problems. People in the U.S. depend too much on the technology and Internet in particular to solve problems in the society. Their faith in the “power of technology” does not have a solid foundation. All the technologies are ruled and controlled by some people. They cannot operate as an independent unit. Thus, one way or the other all the social problems can be solved only by people, and the longer people would shift the responsibility, the more technology would prevent people. The technology seems to detract from society overall. The Internet creates illusion of communication, illusion of life. People have forgotten how to communicate in person; the youth has forgotten how to think by themselves. Being a reliable assistant the Internet destroys the society. Everything indicates that the Internet will continue to acquire greater significance in the lives of many people today. In connection with this, Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, said, "The Internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow”. Each year it becomes more difficult to argue with that statement. About the author: **Sophia Woodstone**, a manager and writer at [essays order](https://order-essays.com/) writing company. There is a pleasure to receive good feedback from happy students and to know that our team can help in their too stressful study life. "
