Description
This is Grant Searle's ANSI like terminal With added +5v source Pins, and bypass caps added to the AVR's. The prototype Layout worked, however there are a few caviats with the firmware. 1) there is a flow controll issue when you flood the interface, for example setting print "." in a loop in basic will cause carage returns to be missed, this could be a simple to fix issue by increeasing the buffer size or decreasing interface speed in the AVR's software. *this is not the case the issue is explained by a misunderstanding of how the console scroll works.* 2) The keymap is hard coded for a UK keyboard, I never got around to modifying Grants code for other keymaps before I put the project on hold. 3) the board is not 100% ansi compliant but it supports graphics via controll codes which is fun to play with, it also runs alot of software for CPM which configures for ansi. Go check out Grants website at http://www.searle.wales/. His page has accsess to the .HEX files for the two AVRs.
C6 and C7 are meant to be low enough to be put under a socket, I do not know how well a ceramic disk will fit. It may be prudent to use something lower profile like a axial cap, because they are bypass caps you want the leads as short as posible, the pads are really close you may even try SMD caps, some of the larger ones should fit on the pads. I used a mini pro to program the two chips, but if sombody wanted to add programing headers to the schematic I wouldn't complain.
The original schematic is (C) Grant Searle, though I've modified it slightly to provide +5V thrugh the FTDI header, and added bypass caps to the chips. Obviously this is for personal use to anyone who wants to print one, it is not meant for sale or commercial distribution. Additionally this comes with no guarantee of funcitonaltiy, nor to I take responsiblity for any damage that might occur useing this design. Obviously if you send this off to a prototyper to be printed, be shure to check your board for shorts, and other defects. I have tested this board and found it to work your results may vary.
