Description
A basic oscillator circuit to generate a sinusoidal voltage and current in the transformer. The frequency is established by the resonance frequency of the transformer coil and the capacitors. It is recommended to add heatsinks to the MOSFETs, since a great current might flow through the primary coil of the transformer. These MOSFETs (IRLZ44N or any MOSFET in a TO-220 package) can dissipate only 2.4 watts without a heatsink. This circuit could be used in CCFL inverters, arc lighters or Tesla coil drivers. Any voltage that does not exceed the capacitors' or the MOSFETs' maximum voltages can be used. Take into account that the tank circuit might generate higher voltages than the supply voltage. Make sure that it is not too low. Low threshold voltage or logic level MOSFETs are recommended. DO NOT convert it to PCB, since the capacitors it has are SMD ones, which do not have such capacitance and the transformer it features is rarely found. WARNING: be careful, since the high voltage generated in the secondary coil of the transformer may have the potential to kill you. ANOTHER WARNING: this circuit works, but if you need a CCFL inverter, an arc lighter, etc. you should buy a professionally made one, since it is much more safe to use and it is less probable that it fails or it is shorted.
