100-200m laser radar sensor?

Hi, What part would you recommend to achieve a laser obstacle detection of approx 150-200 meters? It should be programmable by a mcu/cpu with no human intervention (no lcd screen needed, just the laser module). I will eventually fit it on a pcb via wire. Functioning temps -20 to 80° or better. Thanks

Hi Markl, Your question is interesting but not clear. 1. Do you simply want to detect that there is an object in front of your equipment? 2. Do you need to detect it only between ceratin ranges, i.e. > 150m and < 250m? 3. Do you need to detect it only with some fixed beam width say +/-10deg? 4. Do you need the detector to scan over a 360degree azimuth angle? 5. Do you need the detector to scan over a range of elevation angles? 6. What is the equipment duty cycle (is it operating all the time)? 7. What programmability do you require? 8. What connectivity to it do you require? I suggest you: (a) write a more complete design specification and (b) have a look around the web at places like: http://www.robotshop.com/en/lidar.html

@andyfierman : This one should fit the range requirement: http://www.robotshop.com/en/ilm-150m-laser-rangefinder.html My concern is that I don't really need a precise rangefinder, much more of a simple detection laser. So to answer your questions: 1) Yes just a detector 2) The angle will be adjusted, so i just need it to be able to detect at a specified distance (more than 100m, we will adjust the angle accordingly), not a range. 3) beam max 45° 4) 360°: No, fixed 5) Elevation: No 6) Duty cycle: Up to 6 hours. May be 10min, 1hr but no more than 6 hours. 7) Just start and stop to save power when not needed 8) Ideally SPI; But any serial would do. And on that website, I only found one object with 100m+ distance. Is there somewhere the simple solution I am looking for? Thanks

I know a bit about laser range finders/distance measurement but only at the higher end of the market. Not sure of suppliers but I think Google is your friend here. You could try looking for laser tape measures (may not go up to 200m) or surveying equipment (theodolites)?

Thanks a lot. I will go for the ILM 150 R or ILM 500 R depending on the quote. Bye!
