3d printing shipping calculator bug

If you have a long thin part, and it is diagonally positioned in stl, the shipping weight is calculated based on the size of the box, not the actual volume of the model. This means that shipping weight is wildly wrong.  The model volume is always correct.  Here is cart with two of the same part, the lower one is diagonal.  Furthermore, the diagonal part is cheaper to print! ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/nGJgEAyWPjIbKEUL1ZSfHyYB1DEq08x3KEbuLH2u.png) <br> <br> Rotated part by itself so you can see the weight. ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/FOB0bFkuibzVxHWd8s4XkOaGjhcCjvP8BZF56SDD.png)

Hello Thank you for sharing this topic, I see that your first image shows two selected items, the second one shows only one selected item! Could you set one item to compare the part orientation, please consider that as soon as you upload the STL file the orientation is not a price factor.

Hi - here is the same part, in first image it is diagonally positioned in STL, in second image, it is flat.  The printing cost is lower for the diagonal part, but the weight is totally wrong.  Note the model volume is correctly calculated as 10.65cm3 in both cases. <br> ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/OxO5JkPHAe6T7X2ahTLRq8N271pMvfgHg6dgxrTY.png) ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/kssBm0HwflDt0aP5Wrsc0FcwTqiC9hOItlgsw3Xo.png)

@calum22161 Is it possible for you to share both version of STL files, if possible you could give us a download link for them, I don't know if this is okay for you to share them!

@jlcpcbsupport Here are the two files.  Let me know when you get them ok. [https://www51.zippyshare.com/v/ApyTgyzD/file.html](https://www51.zippyshare.com/v/ApyTgyzD/file.html) [https://www51.zippyshare.com/v/c1iTmQOS/file.html](https://www51.zippyshare.com/v/c1iTmQOS/file.html)<br> <br>

@calum22161 Hello and thank you for sharing the files, well received. It makes more sense now,I will check with the team and give you a feedback ASAP. Thank you.

@calum22161 Hello again. After checking the files, the 3D printing cost is related to both the model volume and the size, for the flat part, the length is longer, so that the cost is a little higher. The shipping weight needs to consider the volumetric weight as well, as the diagonal part angle is larger, so the volumetric weight is higher. You need to try the flat one to get the best price for now, meanwhile we are improving our 3D printing parsing tool to be much more accurate. ![325601560_437611311844494_9183667929721992008_n.jpg](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/uEwkiks6ubJAjS6O1l87EUNnsnDzW3seQIKCdcgK.jpeg)
