Dumb Newbie Question No2.

I shall begin by apologising for my lack of naming conventions. I have put together a couple of successful transfers of circuits into EasyEDA. What I don't know know to do is to choose components which are soldered on the bottom side of the board, those components which have pins. The two circuit layouts I put into EasyEDA give me components which are surface mounted. No doubt a much more polished product, but one which exceeds my abilities, and needs. How do I pick simple components, eg, 555, 556, simple resistors, capacitors, pots ... I cannot understand the differing pull-down options when selecting components that give me pins to go through the board. Any tips or hints greatly appreciated. Yours, Dumb Newbie

Shift+F library search for the basic device that you want (or full part number if you have it) then pick out the symbols which have through hole Footprints assigned to them. Then use the Layer attribute in the top right of the right hand panel to select top or bottom layer placement and routing. It will help you and save time if you make a simple dummy project and play with it as you go through the Tutorial to learn the tool.

Thanks [andyfierman](https://easyeda.com/andyfierman)

What I have done, which I have found helpful, is creating a "playground" project. Within this I have played with placing the different components, with the footprint required, ie., surface mount or through-hole, without actually wiring any of the components together. I then save it, Convert to PCB (skipping any checking). After placing the components on the board, I go to 3D mode, and can visually see if I've created to correct footprint. It's proven to be helpful. Next I will play around with the layers and routing. :: I managed to put together a couple of quick 'n dirty schematics, fortuitously with the correct footprint, and used the auto-route to put it all together. I have to say that I find this software absolutely brilliant. Whether I use the built-in components or not, I get a handy BOM which makes life immeasurably easier. I am a simple hobbyist trying to pick it up after many years, and only need a few simple boards - this just makes everything so much easier. Thanks again [andyfierman](https://easyeda.com/andyfierman). I appreciate you taking the time to help a dumb newbie.
