i want to try some aluminium pcbs and i need to understand what i have to do in order to have a coloured pcb + some exposed copper. 1) if i select a color for the pcb, is that color going to be normally poured all over the pcb on the top and the bottom of it? 2) example: the pcb is filled by a copper ground, then i have any solder mask layer “stuff”(solid region, text or image)—> will the result be a colored pcb with exposed “stuff” with a aluminium core in the middle? 3) in addition of what i mentioned above, if i don't fill the pcb with a ground plane, if i expose through TopSolderMask, will i see the Aluminium? thanks for the help

well. this could be quite explanatory [https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.Umy3Tf3cLLYQ_p2PkmrcMwHaId&pid=Api&f=1 in this image, i believe that there is copper exposed, the black one could be the solder mask \- the questions remain the same as above\.](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftse1.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOIP.Umy3Tf3cLLYQ_p2PkmrcMwHaId%26pid%3DApi&f=1)

@ginopaolo, I assumed that you were talking about a multilayer PCB with an aluminium core layer. It would appear that this is not what you are talking about because your image appears to show a simple copper area covered in a black solder riesist with some of it removed to expose the copper and that exposed copper has an ENIG finish. I do not understand where the aluminium features in this PCB.

I'm not referring to multilayer but 1 layer pcb (aluminium core) with copper ground exposed in order to show text/images. i'm aware of the fact that the picture i posted is not aluminium as i want to make them. It is, though, the visual result that i want to achieve. I would be able to make a pcb exactly like the one i posted since is copper area on standard pcb with solder mask aperture. My question is about the aluminium pcbs instead (never used before) .

Sorry but you're not giving a clear enough description of what board material you are working with. I asked you to provide information on the PCB stack up of your aluminium board. Please do so and also post links to the material, not just pictures of what you want it to look like. Thanks.

@ginopaolo, I hadn't seen this announcement: [https://support.jlcpcb.com/article/157-new-arrival-aluminum-pcb-boards-only-2](https://support.jlcpcb.com/article/157-new-arrival-aluminum-pcb-boards-only-2)

Are these what you are asking about?
