Read the applications notes in the device datasheet. If your chosen device datasheet has no or insufficient applications notes then you need to find one that does.

Manufacturers such as Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Infineon, OnSemi and Diodes Inc. have design guides and notes and some online presentations and videos about LED lighting and driver design.

You can search from OSHWLab site with "LED Matrix" words. This brings up many high power LED matrix projects.
