looking for a vertical usb-a connector

I am looking for a usb connector that can be mounted on a pcb vertically.  I want to plug a 5 volt wall wart into a wall socket, then plug a pcb with a male USB adapter into the wall wart and have the board stand up to save room on the outlet.  I would like ears on the usb so I can solder them to the board for more stability. Does someone have a part number for me to be able to order and design on a pcb?  Thanks

Neutrik used to have one but seem to have dropped it.   This is the only one I know of nowadays but I suspect it is far more expensive that what you are after. [http://www.cliffuk.co.uk/products/usb/dualusbinxlr.htm](http://www.cliffuk.co.uk/products/usb/dualusbinxlr.htm)

Hi MikeDB, thanks for responding to my question.  The link is what I am looking for, but I would really like the ears (the metal tabs on either side of the pins) to be facing down  so I could solder them through the board for more support.  I have looked at many of them, but none seem to have the tabs in the right spots. Thinking about it, I guess I could put a pad on the top of the board and solder the tabs to the pads. Actually, I think I found it: [https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Right-Angle-Socket-Connector/dp/B00FH7TF0M/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=usb+male+type+a+connector&qid=1556581242&s=electronics&sr=1-3](https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Right-Angle-Socket-Connector/dp/B00FH7TF0M/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=usb+male+type+a+connector&qid=1556581242&s=electronics&sr=1-3)

I was wrong. I want the pins straight out, not at a 45 degree angle.  Don’t know how I missed that🥵

@cjnetfilx26, I'm not sure if you're looking for a plug or a socket. Socket: [https://datasheet.lcsc.com/szlcsc/Jing-Extension-of-the-Electronic-Co-LCSC-A-F180-10-PBTWhite-plastic-Not-high-temperature_C42536.pdf](https://datasheet.lcsc.com/szlcsc/Jing-Extension-of-the-Electronic-Co-LCSC-A-F180-10-PBTWhite-plastic-Not-high-temperature_C42536.pdf) Plugs: Expensive and a bodge but could be soldered to the PCB using the pins flat to the pads: [https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/type-a-usb-connectors/1792867/](https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/type-a-usb-connectors/1792867/) [https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/type-a-usb-connectors/1792868/](https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/type-a-usb-connectors/1792868/) or through hole but with no proper support: [https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/type-a-usb-connectors/1792865/](https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/type-a-usb-connectors/1792865/) [https://uk\.farnell\.com/clever\-little\-box/clb\-jl\-8134/usb\-connector\-type\-a\-plug\-4pos/dp/2931103?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIic6DxK\_34QIVIQvTCh3\-0wctEAYYBCABEgJ6OfD\_BwE&gross\_price=true&mckv=rJhc6H0J\_dc\|pcrid\|78108376509\|&CAWELAID=120173390002967217&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=14406255429&CMP=KNC\-GUK\-GEN\-SHOPPING\-2931103&CATCI=aud\-157604796549:pla\-307287138132](https://uk.farnell.com/clever-little-box/clb-jl-8134/usb-connector-type-a-plug-4pos/dp/2931103?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIic6DxK_34QIVIQvTCh3-0wctEAYYBCABEgJ6OfD_BwE&gross_price=true&mckv=rJhc6H0J_dc|pcrid|78108376509|&CAWELAID=120173390002967217&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=14406255429&CMP=KNC-GUK-GEN-SHOPPING-2931103&CATCI=aud-157604796549:pla-307287138132)

You missed this one which is exactly what I need for a project :-) [https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/1792866/](https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/1792866/) On backorder as ever with RS nowadays but looks to do what I need.  Any ideas on a spring clip for it to maintain EMC ?

I found quite a few vertical mount sockets with shielding and mounting lugs from all the usual suspects but it's the plugs that are rare. What's the the special appeal of: [https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/1792866/](https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/1792866/) as opposed to something like: [https://uk.farnell.com/wurth-elektronik/614004135023/usb-2-0-type-a-receptacle-tht/dp/1841168](https://uk.farnell.com/wurth-elektronik/614004135023/usb-2-0-type-a-receptacle-tht/dp/1841168) ?

This is interesting.  The company Farnell is in the UK.  The same company in the United States is called Newark which is an old electronic company,  This is the US connector.  Surprise, it is coming out of the UK warehouse.  [https://www.newark.com/wurth-elektronik/614004135023/usb-connector-type-a-rcpt-4pos/dp/16T0646?ost=614004135023&ddkey=https:en-US/Element14_US/search](https://www.newark.com/wurth-elektronik/614004135023/usb-connector-type-a-rcpt-4pos/dp/16T0646?ost=614004135023&ddkey=https%3Aen-US%2FElement14_US%2Fsearch) The US price is $2.11 but I have no idea what shipping and handleing is. The UK price is 1.85 euros. This is what I ordered (from Walmar of all places) [https://www.walmart.com/ip/20Pcs-USB-2-0-Type-A-Male-Plug-Port-Straight-Pin-PCB-Mount-Connector/49319175](https://www.walmart.com/ip/20Pcs-USB-2-0-Type-A-Male-Plug-Port-Straight-Pin-PCB-Mount-Connector/49319175) Thanks again for all of your information.

@cjnetfilx26, If you search for the part number: CLB-JL-8134 it come up all over the place including RS (not Radio Shack!) in the USA: [https://americas.rsdelivers.com/product/cie/clb-jl-8134/cie-clb-jl-series-through-hole-version-usb-type-a/1792865](https://americas.rsdelivers.com/product/cie/clb-jl-8134/cie-clb-jl-series-through-hole-version-usb-type-a/1792865) I don't know if this applies to the US arm but if you can open an account with RS in the UK, you get free delivery on all online orders no matter how small!

I accidently ordered these and got them last night.  I was abled to straighten the pins straight, so they should work fine.  Now all I have to do is to figure out a pad to solder the ears to and I think I will be fine. Thanks for the responses.

I know this is probably too late now but I just found this in the LCSC library: [https://lcsc\.com/product\-detail/USB\-Connectors\_Jing\-Extension\-of\-the\-Electronic\-Co\-LCSC\-A\-F180\-17\-5\-PBTWhite\-plastic\-Not\-high\-temperature\_C168706\.html](https://lcsc.com/product-detail/USB-Connectors_Jing-Extension-of-the-Electronic-Co-LCSC-A-F180-17-5-PBTWhite-plastic-Not-high-temperature_C168706.html) [https://datasheet.lcsc.com/szlcsc/Jing-Extension-of-the-Electronic-Co-LCSC-A-F180-17-5-PBTWhite-plastic-Not-high-temperature_C168706.pdf](https://datasheet.lcsc.com/szlcsc/Jing-Extension-of-the-Electronic-Co-LCSC-A-F180-17-5-PBTWhite-plastic-Not-high-temperature_C168706.pdf) ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/eM2PWmTORAJFBTGizvWPg0FNEsQ6zqDVQdUr9pMe.png)

@andyfierman That's probably because it wasn't in LCSC when this thread began :-) Their stocking policy is, shall we say, somewhat cyclic, with new stuff appearing all the time but other parts going missing for months on end so you have to ask Alibaba is someone else can supply it.   Just had this with a MOSFET controller I got from them ages ago but they've had zero stock for months.  My client wasn't impressed and obviously I couldn't bill him for the time spent in rectifying the situation. Sometimes RS isn't as expensive as they seem once you add in the time taken chasing parts and the express postage.

Thank you Andy and Mike for your help.  They are exactly what I am looking for.  They are so cheap, I ordered some.  I will have connectors coming out of my ears soon. Thanks again.

@cjnetfilx26, Aaaargh! Sorry: I forgot that you were looking for a vertical USB plug. The thing I just posted about is a socket: [https://lcsc\.com/product\-detail/USB\-Connectors\_Jing\-Extension\-of\-the\-Electronic\-Co\-LCSC\-A\-F180\-17\-5\-PBTWhite\-plastic\-Not\-high\-temperature\_C168706\.html](https://lcsc.com/product-detail/USB-Connectors_Jing-Extension-of-the-Electronic-Co-LCSC-A-F180-17-5-PBTWhite-plastic-Not-high-temperature_C168706.html)
