Please post the link to a public project that shows an example of what you are asking about. You should not be trying to add footprints to the PCB. The correct way to add an extra component to the PCB is to add it to the schematic and then do "Update PCB..." or "Import Changes..." If you are creating a PCB directly without a schematic then you mst change the net names on the tracks on each side of the gap.
