Align to grid and snap give different placement for SMD part. Can they be made consistent?

My settings are grid/snap size as 50mil, alt snap 25mil. Having placed an R0603_L1.6-W0.8-H0.8, if I do an align to grid the part always moves by a small amount. After that, if dragging the part it resnaps as expected and is now no longer aligned to the grid. In contrast, a dip package snaps and aligns as expected. Is there an option or settings recommendation other than using an order of magnitude finer grid/snap for the grid and snap calculation to be consistent?

Update - I twigged as to what was going on, and setting alt snap to 20 rather than 25 and using alt when placing or grid aligning my smd parts works fine.

So what I thought was a solution turns out not to be after all, as shift-ctrl-alt-G does nothing rather than aligning based on the alternate snap size (somehow I thought it might be interpreted as an alternate grid size). So the anomaly of snap vs align remains. Any guidance for consistency much appreciated.

With a bit more time on the design and exploring it's clearer what's going on now. Definitely impressed with how well EEDA is working.
