Bug in laying tracks
379 18
jthompson8 2 years ago

stop switching layers playing guessing games when laying tracks, I select the layer "TopLayer" and start laying tracks, clearly I want to lay tracks on "TopLayer" or I wouldn't have it selected.

If I wanted to lay tracks on the bottom layer (or vice versa) i would select that layer wouldn't I.

If you cant guess what people want to do and get it right 100% of the time DON'T TRY it just pisses people off having some cocky know it all controlling what they try to do.

I think this topic should be in the EasyEDA Std Category.

Hello and thank you for your topic post.
Probably you want to change the post to the "Bug Reports" under EasyEDA Std category in order to get a better interaction.

Thank you again and welcome to share your thoughts

You must draw at a incorrect layer which doesn't support track, for example Multi-layer

@usersupport your not making any sense, if you want to draw track on the bottom layer, you select the bottom layer and start drawing track, if there is a PAD on the top layer where you happen to want to draw track, it automaticity switches layer to top and snaps to the top pad you did not want making it impossible to draw bottom layer tracks underneath top layer pads ? that is a bug, it is not possible to draw bottom layer tracks due to a BUG

@jthompson8,

It would help if you posted an animated gif video to illustrate this issue.

@jthompson8
it  is not a bug, it is a feature, when you click the other layer pads, it will change to that layer to draw the track, if you don't want to change layer automatically, you should not click the pad or track directly
this feature you can try it at Altium, same as them behaviour

@usersupport call it a feature if you like, but it is a feature that stops you from being able to lay tracks on the selected layer if there are any large pads on any other layer.

feathers do not restrict you from doing any work, they assist you

it is a bug

it at least needs an override or a disable feature button somewhere.

@jthompson8 doesn't provide the option now

@jthompson8,

With no images to help to explain the behaviour that you are attempting to describe, it is impossible to know exactly how to reproduce it.

So far, I cannot reproduce the behaviour that you are attempting to describe.

Here are some screenshots of what I think you are attempting to describe but which do not reproduce the behaviour.

R101 is on the top layer:

R102 is on the bottom layer:

image.png

Right hand pad of R101 is on the same net as the left hand pad of R102 (as shown on the screen).

Move R102 so that the left hand pad is exactly under the right hand pad of R101:

Swap to working on Bottom Layer:

image.png

Draw track from left hand end of R102 with track corner placed under left hand pad of R101:

image.png

then route round to connect to right hand pad of R101 by pressing T to place a via and swap to routing on the Top Layer:

image.png

and click on right hand pad of R101 to finish:

Giving these finished views:

Please post screenshots to clarify your issue.

this screenshot has a large red pad right in the middle with blue tracks running underneath.

swap to the bottom layer, select the Track tool, and attempt to extend the bottom track to somewhere, click on the blue track i have circled in green bellow and tell how far you managed to branch the blue track ?

the point is, i clicked on an item on the ACTIVE layer any work done is clearly to be done on the Active layer on the item i clicked on as i clicked on something on the active layer. if your going to make a feature that thinks its clever enough to guess what you want to do, it has to be able to achieve it and account for everything, it fails miserably by swapping layers failing even acknowledge the tracks already on the active layer. it is almost as annoying as the Snap to grid that fails to follow its own DRC Error rools, you right a DRC rool book and then fail to follow the rools yourself.

@jthompson8,

"swap to the bottom layer, select the Track tool, and attempt to extend the bottom track ... and tell how far you managed to branch the blue track ?"

Clearly it is not possible to do this on your image alone and it is unrealistic to expect others to try to reproduce the layout in your image.

Please post the link to a public project which demonstrates this issue:

after some faffing i think i have sheared a copy of the project

https://easyeda.com/editor#cmd=new_schematic,cmd_for_project=4b221ff75ddf42c5bcf553f986915bf9

but as expected, there was nothing easy about trying to achieve it since the manage project page is rubbish

@jthompson8,

Sorry but the link you have posted above is incorrect: it does not open in your project.
