Clarity needed on "keep out" areas within Solid Region copper pour

Existing advice is unclear and conflicting. I want to pour copper into a Solid Region, but within that region there are rectangles where copper must not go. The forum suggestion is to create additional Solid Regions for those rectangles where copper is to be excluded, and to set them to type Board Cutout. If I do this, the photoview and 3D view show a hole right through the whole board. I don't want a hole; I only want to keep the copper out of the area on the specified layer. Alternatively, if I set the exclusion rectangles to type No Solid, it has no effect on the copper pour done by the enclosing Solid Region, at least as shown by photoview and 3d view. What is the correct technique please? (I am hoping it does not involve multiple Solid Regions navigating around my "keep out" areas.)

Not "Board Cutout". That's a hole through the board. Set to "No Solid". ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/w8CedGCWf3R65S0SL6CwgRQYtVrPEiTlXzPvneAx.png)

@andyfierman Thanks, but I tried that and it does not work. Please see the second para in my OP.

It does work: please look carefully at the two Solid Regions around the HCP1 and HCP2 tracks and associated copper areas on the right hand side of this PCB: [https://easyeda.com/editor#id=6c082f60c8e24ef7a373a4897f6ff593](https://easyeda.com/editor#id=6c082f60c8e24ef7a373a4897f6ff593) ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/GTRTzTrXs9sV1VjMbtePNB4EPU9Ij4NgKI2U6QT1.png) in this project: [https://easyeda.com/andyfierman/4-wire-sensing-using-the-kelvin-connection](https://easyeda.com/andyfierman/4-wire-sensing-using-the-kelvin-connection) Please check your Gerber output using gerbv: [https://docs.easyeda.com/en/PCB/Gerber-Generate/index.html#Gerber-View](https://docs.easyeda.com/en/PCB/Gerber-Generate/index.html#Gerber-View) If the Photo and 3D Views appear incorrect then please post a Bug Report.

You should add some images. maybe it fixed at v6.3

@andyfierman Thanks. Your NO SOLID region is successfully keeping out copper that is poured by a Copper Area. My copper was coming from an enclosing SOLID region. So the answer is "If you want to use keep outs, don't pour copper using a SOLID region".

A better way to put it is: "If you want to define copper keep out areas, in an area of copper flood, create them using Solid Regions set to **No Solid** before rebuilding the copper areas" Btw, those copper areas in my example were created by selecting all the segments of the traces they were to protect, copying and pasting them, increasing their trace widths and then converting them to Solid regions then setting the solid regions to No Solid and finally, moving them into the correct locations and rebuilding the copper areas.

Hello, i have the same problem. In an older Version of EasyEDA it was possible to cut out of a solid copper region. In the new version i tried to edit my design and the cutout of the copper region was gone. I think it should be possible to create a No Solid Regin inside a Solid Region to make a cutout. Is this a Bug that this is not possible?

@Skyliner288, Solid Region still offers a solid copper area (Solid), a cutout in the copper (No Solid) or a third option of hole though the board.

@andyfierman I want a No Solid Region inside a Solid Region inside a Copper Area. This is not working as shown:![2019-11-04 13_17_51-Window.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/K3pVHMT2e0WZtqKLgyEU7eFqxBLbMidkTcRmZ8tV.png) The No Solid Region is Solid as shown. RECTANGLE  and SOLID are always solid, COPPER AREA is solid except where NO-SOLID overlaps.

no I'm wrong. it works some other way that depends on order of operations

The important information here in addition (might be a bug though) is: The "No Solid" Region \*must not\* carry the same Net Label as the pour you want to cut out from\. E.g. if you have a Pour with "GND" net label and want to cut out from it: The "No Solid" net label should be anything but not "GND". For example it could have a blank net label or "ghftunerju" but not "GND"

Hi! I just use Copper Area Manager to make an copper keepout area. Moving up in priority makes a keepout area remove ground from the keepout area. ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/wNi07DFmoh8L9DUNKJgMgvHE7OG7W2pAd5GNKUli.png) Here are some of my projects where I utilize this method: [https://easyeda.com/markus_jidoka/TP4056-750mA-03962A-Lithium-Battery-Charger-Module-v2.0](https://easyeda.com/markus_jidoka/TP4056-750mA-03962A-Lithium-Battery-Charger-Module-v2.0)<br> <br> [https://easyeda.com/markus_jidoka/OpAmp-Tinker-Board-v2.0](https://easyeda.com/markus_jidoka/OpAmp-Tinker-Board-v2.0)<br> <br> [https://easyeda.com/markus_jidoka/sta540-6-channel-amplifier-v1-2](https://easyeda.com/markus_jidoka/sta540-6-channel-amplifier-v1-2)<br> <br> Regards, Markus Virtanen HW / Electronics Designer

@tobalt, @Jasen, Good point. When I get some time, I will edit the demo in: https://easyeda.com/editor#id=6c082f60c8e24ef7a373a4897f6ff593![image.png](https://image.easyeda.com/pullimage/GTRTzTrXs9sV1VjMbtePNB4EPU9Ij4NgKI2U6QT1.png) in this project: [https://easyeda.com/andyfierman/4-wire-sensing-using-the-kelvin-connection](https://easyeda.com/andyfierman/4-wire-sensing-using-the-kelvin-connection)<br> <br> to clarify that for a No Solid region to be not filled by a Copper Area, it must either have no (preferred solution: just leave it blank) or a unique netname assigned to it.
