Clone a Footprint and change the package from another footprint

I need a footprint from a existing transistor in th library which has another package. However the one I need is not in the library. So I thought I could clone the existing transistor and change the footprint and the 3d model with a clone of the footprint of another transistor which has the required footprint. Is this possible? I could not find the way to do this.

Place the transistor in your schematic. Click on the Footprint attribute. This opens the Footprint Manager. Search for and select the alternative Footprint in the Footprint Manager. Check and, if necessary, edit the pin mapping. Click Update. Close the Footprint Manager. Done.
