Confused, what's a white dot vs a red dot?

Hi, Some wire joins are white, some are red. Everything seems to work properly regardless of color, but I'm just confused. What does a white dot mean? what does a red dot mean? Thanks, I'll change them back to white. No idea how that could have changed.
