Connect existing PCB layout to a Schematic in another project?

I have made a mess of saving projects with different variations of the same design. I now have a schematic in one project, with several changes different from a PCB in another project. Can I somehow just assign a new schematic to the existing PCB layout in another project?

Create a new project. Copy the schematic you want and the PCB you want into the new project. If the PCB matches the schematic then that should be all you have to do. If the PCB is different from the schematic then: 1) if the schematic is correct then do Update PCB... or Import Changes... 2) if the PCB is correct then you will have to manually update the schematic to the same state as the PCB.
