Connecting Ground plane to connections

I have a 4 layer board and am looking to connect my am looking to connect my GND pins to my GND inner 1 copper layer, but when I am routing and I use the hotkey 1 to switch to this layer to create a connection, it tells me "Change to a plane layer is not allowed during routing". Is there a simple way to connect my ground connections to this plane?

Terminate tracks that have to connect into the GND plane with one or - depending on your requirements - more vias by ending the track and then (without moving the mouse) press the V key to insert a via. Check that the via has inherited the correct netname.
