Hello guys, first time trying to build a prototype. In this project I'm just building a mini qwerty keypad using an atmega32ua, basically can I place the microcontroller and the majority of the components in the bottom layer and still connect them to the rows and columns of buttons on the top layer?? besides the microcontroller I should have an usb connection and a reset button to flash the controller. Thanks!!

EasyEDA produces defaults to two layer PCBs with plated through holes so yes, you can do what you are asking about. Please see the Tutorials and: [https://easyeda\.com/andyfierman/Elements\_of\_a\_simple\_PCB\-e42c7b2a4e17449f821a97d04806aeeb](https://easyeda.com/andyfierman/Elements_of_a_simple_PCB-e42c7b2a4e17449f821a97d04806aeeb)

The PAD and VIA tools in the meny (see image the ring is PAD and the smaller ring with two lines is the VIA) are simple ways to connect the top and bottom sides. With Pads you get a hole so you can mount throughhole components there connected to both top and bottom side. With the VIA you get a tiny tiny hole that is masked by the silk screen later on that just connects the top and bottom layers. Use this and a TRACE connecting on both top and bottom side to interact between the two layers. ![pcbtools.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/VRJRwaU7YFWwI7OoGyMxAdxyHjoIczhhVZw4cOnl.png)

@kristian.borgstedt, "The PAD and VIA tools ... are simple ways to connect the top and bottom sides. " Note that they also connect to all inner layers if a multilayer (i.e. >2 layer) PCB is set up in the Layers setting. "With Pads you get a hole so you can mount throughhole components there connected to both top and bottom side. " Note that this is true only if the Pad is configured as a Multi-layer. If it is configured as a Top or Bottom Layer pad then it cannot be set to have a hole in it. Vias, by definition, always have a hole in them. :)
