Editing LCSC parts/components

LCSC components often have unnecessary elements like the potentiometer in the image below. In fact, this potentiometer came with 5 pins (instead of 3) and had to hide the excess two. Unfortunately this potentiometer has the exact right PCB footprint so I can't replace it. How do I edit this part? It's kind of a big deal for me. As much as I love EasyEDA, not having good quality libraries and not being able to use the right footprints make it completely useless for me. ![partedit2.gif](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/z3NCmD6b86SnyTMDqicH9Q2bvekszc4D75YuxAjf.gif)

This part has two pins that are used for PCB mounting so they should be shown on the schematic symbol so that they can be represented on the PCB Footprint. This follows the philosophy that "If it is on or forms an integral part of the PCB then it must be represented in the schematic." Please see (2.2), (2.3), (4) and (6) in (2) in: [https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a](https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a) I agree however that this symbol (and maybe others like it could be drawn a lot better. For example, it does not need 2 pins for the case connection because in a PCB Footprint you can have more than one pad with the same number, so only one case pin needs to be represented in the schematic symbol. If it not to be connected then it can have a not connect flag attached in the schematic or (and be very careful with this) the case connection pin could be hidden.

You can edit the symbol simply by selecting it in the Search Libraries tool then double left-clicking on the preview image on the right hand side. * Please read (2.3) in (2) in: [https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a](https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a) first.

@andyfierman I still cannot edit the symbol or the footprint. When I double left-click on the preview image, nothing happens. I have also tried to click on the image before I click on 'Place' and it takes me to the LSCS site. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your time and patience! ![edit_lcsc.jpeg](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/MGPDNe9i3jiNlzBSSAKpN9D3ocKx3fszPT7NkJo1.jpeg)

You absolutely cannot edit LSCS parts (when using the LSCS search engine). Only using the EasyEDA search engine I managed to edit parts. I still don't get this though: _Please read (2.3) in (2) in:_ [_https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a_](https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a) _first._ What is '**2.3 in 2**'? Sorry but your instructions may not be clear. You obviously don't like something about my post but I am not sure why. I will try to not post here in the future, promise!

Well, you could make your own component with that footprint if the LCSC compontent footprint doesn't suit you or any other user contributed footprint. That would have saved you a week, takes maybe an hour, but you make it as you need if that truly is a big deal for you. And also it's quite common to create your own components and footprints, because not everything is already made or you might not like how someone has made their component, soyou roll your own. And if you read the "How to ask for help and get an answer" post, you'd see that there is a point (2), which says: **(2) read **[**Welcome to EasyEDA**](https://easyeda.com/andyfierman/Welcome_to_EasyEDA-31e1288f882e49e582699b8eb7fe9b1f)**;** Which leads you to another post: [https://easyeda\.com/andyfierman/Welcome\_to\_EasyEDA\-31e1288f882e49e582699b8eb7fe9b1f](https://easyeda.com/andyfierman/Welcome_to_EasyEDA-31e1288f882e49e582699b8eb7fe9b1f) Where 2.3 is : 2.3) [How to create findable footprints and searchable symbols](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZRkPPMID68mBz9j9RMIJARNSXK12PDULZXP7kiThvDg/edit?usp=sharing) This will help you to find symbols and footprints and understand how to successfully create your own so that you and others can find them and be assured that they are correct. Seems pretty clear to me.

"You absolutely cannot edit LSCS parts (when using the LSCS search engine)." Correct, but the LCSC search is essentially a catalogue browser. It is showing you an image of the symbols and footprints. It is not showing you the actual symbols and footprints in the library. "Only using the EasyEDA search engine I managed to edit parts." Which is exactly why I suggested that you follow at my instructions. "What is '**2.3 in 2**'? Sorry but your instructions may not be clear. " Open the link I posted. [https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a](https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a) This takes you to: ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/kCSE9VgGHOWpRrsa3USr9EVMToJIshjXNpvbBx8g.png) Read down it until you get (2): ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/aeyp4wc4qee9O9LSxwoR2FNQXIJARcT9jZighQE8.png) Click on the link which takes you to: ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/JF277EB76EhABYuTqiBUs26ScMdAkVgelJqIwBAs.png) where you read down until you get to (2.3): ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/OWBL9w1aAmHBrwnalM1xTMlyFezDPvAoGSQ38Jk4.png) which you click on to read: ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/FbWm0GO1FbdfSLmGx0wkMzv1QV6jXx58Eec1eSe2.png) "You obviously don't like something about my post but I am not sure why." Not true. For reasons already stated in the "How to ask for help and get an answer" section, when someone asks a question it is important that they give the maximum amount of information in support of their question and that they have (a) done as much work as they can to answer it before they post on the forum and (b) they do their best to follow any help or advice given in answer to their question. "How to ask for help and get an answer" is marked [Must read] for a reason. If we had to post a full description in answer to every question posted on the forums, we would only have time to answer a few questions a day. By pointing people to-  and asking them to read - more extensive documentation it saves having to do that and at the end of the day helps to keep this service free by not having to employ more people on a helpdesk. "I will try to not post here in the future, promise!" But that is what these forums are for so if you need help just ask but please be prepared to put the work in first to help people answer your questions.

@deskpro256 "And also it's quite common to create your own components and footprints, because not everything is already made or you might not like how someone has made their component, soyou roll your own." Ia m well aware of that and I have done that before. I don't want do it from the scratch if there is footprint already. Thank you for your answer, the matter is already solved.
