Gerber generation from library pcb?

I took a pcb file from my library, make some edits but can not find any way to export a Gerber file such that I can buy some of the PCB.   What am I missing here?    Are schematics required to build the gerber file?    thanks for any help, I'm new to this. I am using the web client, I tried to download the mac desktop version but there are security issues with it.    I was about to abandon EasyEDA but figured I would ask here first for help, this is my first ever attempt to create a PCB so bear with me.

"I took a pcb file from my library..." Sorry but I don't understand what you mean. PCB Footprints are kept in libraries. They are what are placed into a PCB and it is the pads of PCB Footprints that are connected together by routed copper to make the circuit that then ends up as the finished (bare or unpopulated) PCB. PCBs are stored in Projects in your personal work area. Gerber files are generated from PCBs. Gerber files are not generated from PCB Footprints. The processes of generating, downloading and checking your Gerber files and then ordering a PCB from JLCPCB are all documented in the Tutorial, (1) in (2) in: [https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a](https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a)<br> <br> BTW, you can create - and generate Gerbers from - a PCB crated without a Schematic but EasyEDA does not recommend this approach.

@andyfierman "BTW, you can create - and generate Gerbers from - a PCB crated without a Schematic but EasyEDA does not recommend this approach." That's exactly what I was trying to do, I was able to create the PCB and it looks perfect, this was done without a schematic.   How can the Gerber be generated?   I don't see any option to do that, all I see is various types of export, but none of those generate a Gerber file.   The magic Gerber button is nowhere to be found. The doc implies this is possible, but it does not say how exactly.   Your help is appreciated.

Hi, it should be possible, you should find the gerber export in 2 ways: 1\. Fabrication \> PCB Fabrication File \(Gerber\) 2\. Folder icon with "G" in the middle ![Screenshot_1.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/3Q7reBnDRLO6cIH3tGyF1xl8I2Xfc2CoBZ5hJENi.png)

@bgnnh, As a beginner with EasyEDA you will save yourself and everyone else a great deal of time and frustration by reading the topic that has already been pointed out for you to read: **How to ask for help and get an answe**r which links to the Tutorial which contains the instructions on how to generate, download and check the Gerbers here: [https://docs.easyeda.com/en/PCB/Gerber-Generate/index.html](https://docs.easyeda.com/en/PCB/Gerber-Generate/index.html)

@bgnnh, For Desktop Client installation issues on MAC see Mac OS in the FAQ: [https://docs.easyeda.com/en/FAQ/Client/index.html#Known-Issue](https://docs.easyeda.com/en/FAQ/Client/index.html#Known-Issue)

I read all that stuff before, it did not help and still does not help.   This tool lead me down a dead-end path, it just does not work for my purpose. To others, creation of a PCB-only design is just not possible, not with the web software anyway, you will never find a way to export the Gerber file.   All the examples and documentation assume you have a schematic in place.   And macos does not want the client tool installed due to security issues, you can override the security but it's not advised IMO. Andy seems to think I'm wasting everyones time, but I hope I save someone from a similar uncorrectable frustration with how the tool is able to function. Goodbye all.   Novice user signing out for good.

Well if you would show what you are doing it would help. We can't see through your eyes. Screenshots, video, screen recordings are available for you to post. Share the project, maybe you are missing something because we have used it so much. Just tried to make a sample PCB without a schematic and the gerber button were still there and worked. I also tried to see if you are in simulation mode, but that doesn't allow you to work with PCB files. So that is out of the question. I do not have a Mac, so I cannot test anything that way. > Andy seems to think I'm wasting everyones time, but I hope I save someone from a similar uncorrectable frustration with how the tool is able to function. Andy has been here for so long, he has written all these tutorials and people still ask the same questions DAILY, for which he wrote all the tutorials. You won't believe how many people just skip over that and ask a simple, answered, question anyway, because they can't be bothered to take a minute or a few to try work stuff out by themselves instead of just having their answers handed to them on a plate. We have no knowledge if you have read it or not, so that is almost his default text before a "Hello" :D "Say the line, Bart!"

@deskpro256, <br> Aaaaaah.... you feel my pain! **_:)_** Maybe I should save a form response somewhere, along the lines of: Welcome to EasyEDA. Before posting in the forum, please ensure that you have read: [https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a](https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/How-to-ask-for-help-and-get-an-answer-71b17a40d15442349eaecbfae083e46a)<br> <br> and the documents that it links to as this will answer most of the questions that new users post here in the forum. It will also help you get the most enjoyment out of using a new tool with the least frustration.

It's possible that the OP was creating a PCB in the Footprint Editor in which there's no menu item to generate Gerber files but we'll probably never know now...

...which might explain their use of the phrase: "I took a pcb file from my library..." So, just in case anyone else makes that mistake: PCBs **must** be created in the **PCB Editor** and not the **Footprint Editor**. There is no option to generate Gerber files from within the Footprint Editor. It is **only** possible to generate Gerber files from within the **PCB Editor**.
