Here are some images to show it:  If I now export it, the black will stay and the white will be etched away:  But from experience etching my own boards, the drill still likes to wobble side to side even with the holes, because the FR4 is still flat, so I take an awl or the pointy part of a compass and make small centering holes and the drilling goes easy:
