How can I export a searchable pdf of PCB layout for assembly plan and test?

Hi all, I need to export a PDF that is searchable in the meaning that the text inside is recognisable by any pdf readers and could be searched with ctrl+F. The way EasyEda exports the pdf file is more like an image where the text is converted and not searchable. Do you know any tricks for this? Thanks, Gabriele

Sorry but no.

However... If you're opening a PDF at the bench that means you have a PC so why not just open the Project in EasyEDA and use the CTRL+F Find and SHIFT+X Cross Probe tools directly?

Because it was a request from or supplier for PCB assembly not for me sadly. But thanks for answering!

OK, how about this. Clone your PCB to a public project; Do **CTRL+A** Select All and set Lock = Yes to lock everything in place; Save; In the PCB Editor make sure this is the only tab open; Copy the url in the browser url bar; Give that url to the customer; They open it in a Chrome/Chromium/Edge Chromium/Firefox browser and they can then do CTRL+F search. ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/d2Zy2mdVBtd8tTIqMMAdjRGn3aOKQSOX3T1MilOy.png) Try this: [https://easyeda.com/editor#id=11ed2cc2e47f4eaea5f55941fa593b58](https://easyeda.com/editor#id=11ed2cc2e47f4eaea5f55941fa593b58)

If you want to limit the info you are giving out, delete the tracks then set the ratlines and the Top, Bottom, any Inner and Document layers to hidden before you save it. If it's a double sided PCB, you may need to explain how to turn top and bottom layer visibility on and off. A more complicated approach would be to ask them as viewers to your team.

@G-move Maybe try dropping the exported pdf in to this tool? [https://www.pdf2go.com/create-searchable-pdf](https://www.pdf2go.com/create-searchable-pdf)

Okay I tried it on a simple schematic and it's hit or miss. Some refdes's pull up, some dont. I'll reply with a better tool if I find one.

@cjohnson, Bear in mind that pdf schematics exported from EasyEDA are already searchable in pretty much and pdf reader. The problem is that text in EasyEDA PCBs is not actual text. It's rendered in some sort of vector format (SVG?) so PCBs exported as pdfs do not contain any text that can be found by a search. I don't know if there's some tool that can do an ocr of the text that reproduces the text in the same special positions that it is on the PCB so that a copy of the PCB could be generated with no prefixes and then have the ocr recovered text overlaid on it

Could try exporting the PCB in svg format then using: [https://products.aspose.app/ocr/ocr-to-pdf/svg](https://products.aspose.app/ocr/ocr-to-pdf/svg)

It's not clear if this works to make characters in an image in an svg format image readable in a pdf with the rest of the image still intact but it might be worth a try. There may be a version that can take a pdf, recognise and replace the text and generate a new searchable pdf file.
