I am an Electronics Engineer, with several decades of PCB design experience, however I am currently working on a project that requires 6 Sliprings on a PCB.The carbon brush shape is 5mmx5mm.
The default track tool shape is round (which is fine for PTH and SMD boards), however a quick look through the top dropdown boxes does not seem to allow any alteration of the tool shape to something that has a square edge, I need a square leading edge that is always perpendicular to the axis point when using the Arc tool, so the end shape is always squared off.
I thought of using a square pad that was superimposed over the end of the rounded track end, however I cannot see how to rotate the square pad to get the desired result.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks Andyfierman for your assistance, I am just getting back into PCB design work, and I never thought to look under Pad Properties, I was thinhing only of tracks.
I'll try this to see if it gives me what I want.
@ProblemSolver,
You're welcome.
There is no way change the shape of the ends of tracks. Using a pad is probably the tidiest work around. Other include using Solid Regions or laying multiple narrow tracks side by side to produce an approximation to a squared off end.
Be sure to set the net name of the Pad or Solid Region to be the same as the net to which it applies.
