How to make a soil moisture sensor electrode

Hi, I'm trying to reuse an open hardware soil moisture sensor: [https://easyeda\.com/oshw/Soil\_Moisture\_Sensor\_Open\_hardware\-dpGYSa4mE](https://easyeda.com/oshw/Soil_Moisture_Sensor_Open_hardware-dpGYSa4mE) The two electrodes must be electrically in contact with the soil to work properly When opening the pcb file, I see that the electrode is designed with copper regions, but given my limited knowledge, I thought that they are covered by an insulated layer. Thank you in advance for the clarification.

Look at the Solder Mask layer to see if there are additional apertures over the copper regions to expose the copper. In EasyEDA is is possible to "Add solder mask" but this is a confusion description. In fact what happens is that it adds an aperture in the solder mask to expose the area underneath it.
