How to use generic packages?

Hi, how can I find and use a generic component package rather than having to design a new one if the one I want does not exist? Case in point: I need to add a Broadcom ACPL-847-300E to my design but there is not one available in the library. A generic PDIP16 surface mount component would be perfect. Regards, Don.

Find something in the same package, clone it and then edit it to make the required part. Save it and add a description with links to manufacturer's device and datasheet.
