Inner board cutout

Hi,

I just want to confirm the way to create a inner board cutout. I want to make a square (hole) within my board. So I just to create a Solid Area with NPTH in the attribute Layer and Type?

enter image description here

I can see the area look like see-through under PhotoView,

enter image description here

but in Gerber Viewer I can't tell if it is a cutout or an area without copper.

enter image description here

Is my method correct?

Thanks,
Wilson

Your PCB is right.
at photo viewer, we have a way to make it better.
But gerber viewer just show it as board outline.

So, your design is OK.

Hi,

Are you sure the outline edge layer proper defines inner cut outs?

@MMorena27,
To make a cutout inside a Board Outline, please search for:
NPTH

For a cutout on a PCB, we can use "Solid Region", but there is one problem. How can we accurately define the cutout position?
With most of the other tools, we can define exact coordinates, but solid region doesn't seem to support this.
This makes setting up precise cutout difficult.

Any ideas?

@digitalradiohacker

I noticed that the Solid Region tool has an 'Edit Points' button which allows you to define the position. Not sure if this is new or not.

Yep, things are changing fast here.
It looks like that was added after I asked about it.
One thing proving useful is to use something like Sketchup to create an outline for something, export as DXF and then import into EasyEDA. From there, you can choose to have it as board outline / silkscreen etc etc. I do it that way because Sketchup makes drawing even complex shapes pretty easy.

this is the cutout i need to make :

But such a complex shape is impossible to do with "solid region". I did it by importing a DXF, but then i cannot choose the NPTH layer... Any help?

I found the answer here : https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/Solid-region-as-NPTH-slot-in-wrong-layer-e54ed837d8ef49159cb6134740233070

Basically one can import a dxf and do right click > convert to NPTH... this is hidden and not in the documentation! I am very happy i found it but i suggest you guys include it in the documentation as custom slots are very important...

@siri87  Yes, you can use Solid Region to do this. Use hotkey L to change the draw angle when drawing.

How to make cutout in to the board ?
Use Solid Region features to draw what do you want and then click on it and change the attribute (right top corner) Type-> Board Cutout

Hi, just to clarify, if I set the type to 'Board Cutout', and 'One-click Order PCB/SMT' on JLCPCB, will JLCPCB help me to the internal board cutout as shown in the 3D View?
