To use the screen real estate more efficiently and make it tidier please make PCB Tools and Layers Tool dockable to top config bar, i.e. as a second row below top common buttons.

But wouldn't that take up more screen area than just folding up the tool pallettes using the little dash icon top right of the icon and moving them out of the way?
Besides, you can hide them using the **View** menu and then select the tools you need straight from the **Place** menu.
+1 on the OP's suggestion. Floating palettes juste force the user to manage windows. I agree much more efficient use of real estate in the UI can be made. I've said it before, EasyEDA is a million lightyears ahead of Eagle in terms of UI, but a lot remains to be improved.There are many annoyances which need to be addressed, and that's one of them.
