Hey guys, I've been facing this issue for quite a while now and I would like to see how the community manages to get around it. My design includes RF transmission lines (TLs), and usually, we would like to keep a certain clearance from the ground plane surrounding it. Now, I'm aware that you can add a net-specific rule which can be easily set in the DRC (e.g: RF Lines, clearance: 0.5 mm). However, the TL is connected to a small component with a very narrow pad clearance, and due to the connection between the TL and the component, they all share the SAME net. As a result, a 0.5mm clearance rule for the RF TL net would cause problems in the DRC because the pads of the component have a separation of 0.2 mm (and it has the 0.5mm rule applied to it due to sharing the same net).
One solution to this problem is to add a solid region over the TL with No-fill selected, however, solid regions are difficult to bend in a curved pattern, which is often used in RF.
Any suggestions?
Edit: I believe this is called "Local Pad Clearance" in KiCad.
Regards and thanks!
