Newbie here. Just wanna check that 'Rect' forms a rectangular copper layer that can also be used for wiring between components right?
Correct but don't forget to give it and everything connecting to it the same net name.
You may find the Copper Area tool more useful if the areas and shapes you want to connect are more complex.
