Removing opaque layers of PCB

I'm trying to remove all opaque layers of a PCB in order to use it as a backlight faceplate for an enclosure. I've seen examples with basic instructions for how to accomplish this, but am struggling to accomplish this in EasyEDA. I keep getting stuck on removing material around text versus removing the material in the shape of that text itself. Examples: [https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/shuttle-booster-mxr-micro-amp-clone.13113/#post-145910](https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/shuttle-booster-mxr-micro-amp-clone.13113/#post-145910)

[https://www\.reddit\.com/r/diypedals/comments/q82o9e/been\_working\_on\_using\_pcb\_faceplates\_in\_new\_ways/](https://www.reddit.com/r/diypedals/comments/q82o9e/been_working_on_using_pcb_faceplates_in_new_ways/)

Here's the link to my current draft. I have defaulted to using the silkscreen for artwork [https://oshwlab.com/enrosenzweig/faceplate-1](https://oshwlab.com/enrosenzweig/faceplate-1)

Thanks! Evan

Hi the black color depends on the PCB oil color, if you don't need to silksceen, you can export the Gerber, and delete the silkscreen file after unzip Gerber

@enrosenzweig, Please clarify exactly what you wish to achieve. 1. Do you want an **opaque** panel with light shining **only** through some text/artwork/logo formed as exposed/bare FR4? 2. Do you want a **translucent** panel with nothing on it except some opaque text/artwork/logo? 3. If (1), do you want the opaque areas to be in: 1. copper; 2. silkscreen; 3. soldermask? 4. If (2), do you want that text/artwork/logo to be in: 1. copper; 2. silkscreen; 3. soldermask?

@andyfierman, Thanks for the questions. Definitely #1; I want it to be an **opaque** panel with light shining **only** through some text/artwork/logo formed as exposed/bare FR4. At the very least, I would like the opaque region to be soldermask with some areas of silkscreen in addition. I'm assuming that the soldermask would be sufficiently opaque and the the copper layer wouldn't be necessary. ![Screenshot 2022-09-22 11.49.14 AM.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/zEz9OW5jfGw3yv85uL3aCnvb0Wx0N3A3J7vKYw4s.png) Sorry for the sloppy annotation, I'm not at my normal computer. **Red** = Soldermask **Yellow** = Soldermask with silkscreened text **Blue** = bare FR4 to allow LED light through A hole would be drilled through metal enclosure directly underneaththe paisley and the LED would be part of a circuit contained within. The faceplate wouldn't serve any electrical purpose. This particular idea with the paisley may be too detailed/small to be feasible, but hopefully it shows what I'm envisioning. Thanks again!

Hi that seems JLCPCB cannot support this

@usersupport , From many posts about this in the past, there seems to be a problem with JLCPCB manufacturing boards with soldermask but no copper. If the user defines their opaque areas using the top copper layer and then copies that shape onto the top solder mask layer and adds silkscreen text then can JLCPCB do that?

@enrosenzweig, This is a very long topic but worth reading all the way through: [https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/PCB-ordered-to-be-Matt-Black-but-came-with-no-colour-32a72106847a43c99fc691dcfba75cbf](https://easyeda.com/forum/topic/PCB-ordered-to-be-Matt-Black-but-came-with-no-colour-32a72106847a43c99fc691dcfba75cbf)
