Tie a part in the schematic to a footprint in the PCB layout

I am very new to PCB design and EasyEDA. I am working on some simple boards that use an inductor. When I generate my PCB the layout is generated for what looks like a surface mount device. I have found a number of PCB outlines (footprints?) that I could make use of, but I cannot figure out how to tell the software that for a given symbol, use a particular outline on the board. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
