Understanding solder mask colours in 2D/3D view compared to PCB Design

Hi, I am trying to design a very simple PCB, I'm very much a learner for Easy EDA and PCB design in general. I basically have a question regarding solder mask. In the 3D view here: ![Screenshot 2023-01-29 at 18.20.35.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/lp1j7xCeYHLKwZjAursLiU0euAdRC2LqacvnofVi.png) There are a few colours, as I understand them: Blue: Solder mask Light Yellow: Also Solder mask, but solder mask at the edge of a pad - I don't really understand why this would have a different colour? If I remove the 'solder mask' on a pad, this light yellow are disappears, so I concluded from this it is solder mask - but then the top pad doesn't make sense... Dark yellow/gold: Exposed pad You might have guessed the problem I have, and thats that when I connect two of these exposed pads the light yellow area seems to make its way into the pad - the two pads at the top are connected with a copper area: ![Screenshot 2023-01-29 at 18.20.46.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/KQQosZcbL4FreWfRZzIbbbLH8DTFrSHh60QAzDK2.png) The PCB isn't finished by any means, I just wanted to understand what I'm seeing, why the larger top pad seems to fill in with what I thought was solder mask, and for some reason the edge of this pad still shows gold/dark yellow. Am. just seeing a bit of a bug or is this behaviour expected?

To add to my confusion. A copper area drawn around the bottom pad looks more 'normal' where the copper area connect to it. I have been through the settings for the pads and area and they all match up. So very confused what is going on. ![Screenshot 2023-01-29 at 19.24.11.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/P4vSHn00TexVK5snp6KfK83KDy6eSkWww2xdiQzy.png)

Just realised this isn't actually happening in the 2D view, only 3D view. So I'm guessing it's just a view bug. Still interested in what the light yellow area defines specifically.

It would be much easier to make snese of what you are showing above if you made this project, or a simpler version showing the issues, public and shared to url for it here. The Solder Masklayer is a negative layer so a shape in the Solder Mask layer creates an aperture in it.  so this area is showing you the bare FR4 with no copper and no solder mask covering: ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/UChcWtCGUZUU7t0p2rqc8HFQiEWdGxM6x4jYitHb.png) This is also showing you the bare FR4 with no copper and no solder mask covering: ![image.png](//image.easyeda.com/pullimage/1umn7LnUDz8XfJTRB0zbwIESraWl0rn6vMpT6xnq.png) because a positive value for the  "Solder Mask Expansion" of a pad makes the aperture in the solder mask bigger than the area of the pad.
