Is there any other warning message information hidden under the **Layers and Objects** palette in the lower part of the left hand panel?

No - tried each of them in turn. But I discovered a few minutes ago that by converting to 4 layers, and then back to 2 layers, the error went away.  The PCB has never been 4 layers so weird to say the least.
