What determines the center of a footprint?

I have two similar footprints, both with a center hole at 0,0 on the PCB lib editor. On one, the center hole is treated as the component center. On another, another non-centered pad is treated as the component center. Is it something to do with how the component parts appear in the EasyEDA text-based model?

Actually, I figured it out. The centerpoint is picked when the component is placed based on the snap. If I have a large snap (375mil), the placement centerpoint cannot be predicted. If I choose a smaller snap, the origin of the component is used as a centerpoint.

Yes, I can confirm that this is the behavior I am seeing. The only way I can consistently get an accurate centerpoint is by reducing the grid to 1 and then dropping the component onto the PCB.

We try to make the pads on the grid when drag. If the set the grid to small, it is easy to center .

@dillon I see now. That makes sense, even though it is not intuitive. For large components that are not square, you would want to snap to the pad to make routing easier. I agree with this decision. But which pad is chosen to be aligned? If I put a dummy pad in the center of my hole at 0,0, would that trick the system into making the center hole the placement point? Maybe there needs to be a feature to set the local origin of a component once placed?
