This has been a long time problem. It hangs sometimes for the first open and other times after a few. It is not file dependant as far as I can see. It happens for Schematics and PCBs.

This also happens if you run DRC on a modified file.
DRC check generally goes fine with a freshly saved file.
Also opening another file during a file open hang will often open both the hung file and the new one immediately.
