imported image simplification question

Hi there. I have been experimenting with importing images into my PCB design and have noticed that the image must be 'simplified' before it can be added. is this because it is converting it into a vector? if so, is there any way i can submit a bitmap image as part of my design so that there is no sacrifice in visual fidelity? many thanks,

...is it for example, possible to convert an outline into a solid by 'flooding' inside its perimeter?

If you have a right click option to convert the outline to a track then assign it a net name and try drawing a copper area with the same net name round it.
